April 2007) Ich habe in der Bezirksgruppe Aachen (DRC) in Freialdenhoven für den Wesenstest am 22.4. einen Platz bekommen und Samtess hat ihn mit Bravour bestanden. Es war eine sehr angenehme Atmosphäre, alles bestens organisiert von Manuela Vespermann und Brigitte Eckmann. Richterin war Frau E. Weißenborn. Samtess ist vollkommen unberührt durch die Menschengruppe durchmarschiert, hat mit Fremden gespielt und geschmust. Sie ist nur bei einem Schimpansen-großen Kuscheltier vorsichtig gewesen, dann aber, als ich es berührt hatte, ist sie darauf zu und hat daran geschnuppert und festgestellt, dass es keiner Aufregung wert ist. Geräusche auch heftigen Ausmaßes wurden ignoriert, auch die Schüsse, nur geguckt hat sie, ob nicht irgendwo etwas fällt! Mit einer Sache hat sie dann endgültig das Herz der Richterin gewonnen: beim Spiel sollten die Besitzer mit einem Tuch ein Zerrspiel machen und das hat praktisch keiner von uns mit seinem Hund gemacht. Samtess hat mit Wonne um das Tuch gezerrt, schließlich hat die Richterin das Tuch übernommen und sie richtig hochgepuscht, soweit bis Samtess mit Spielknurren anfing, in dem Moment hat die Richterin losgelassen und war vollkommen begeistert und beeindruckt, dass Samtess ebenfalls das Tuch sofort hat fallen lassen und wieder in ihre ruhige, gelassene Normalhaltung zurückgegangen ist, und damit klar gezeigt hat, dass sie das Spiel als Spiel begriffen hatte. “So soll es sein”, hat die Richterin erfreut kommentiert, “der Hund muss sofort wieder entspannen, wenn das Spiel beendet ist.” Dieser Wesenstest hat nicht nur uns, sondern auch der Richterin Spaß gemacht. TAGEBUCH 2007: Das 1. Halbjahr / April ETZEL-HUNTER BETTY SAMTESS A Test of Dog’s Character on 2007, April 20^th With Samtess I have been to a DRC (German Retriever Club) group in Freialdenhoven for a character’s test. It is a special test for dogs, which eventually should be taken for breeding.    The jugde was Mrs. Weissenborn. We had a nice day, all well organized by Manuela Vespermann and Brigitte Eckmann. Samtess, calm and attentive, moved between all the people, and was pleased being caressed and played with by unknown persons. Then we went for a parcours, where she found stations of noise by tins, big animals of stuff or plastic, that were dragged back and forth, some persons who showed special outfits like having an umbrella etc. and one showing a real ghost-like appearance, who called her name and she went to that person and let herself hug a bit. In the end there were some shots, she wasn’t afraid, instead looked up in the air, wether there fell something down to be retrieved. Than the handler had to pull at a towel together with the dog, so the judge could see the dog’s prey-engagement. When the judge herself took the towel and began to pull vehemently, Samtess reacted highly motivated uttering a lot of typical Chessie-sounds. Suddenly the judge dropped the towel and instantly Samtess did the same. That was fine, the judge explained, for they should calm down, when that play ends.
